2013 Convention

The 2013 Nebraska Safari Club Convention was held on February 8th & 9th at the Strategic Air & Space Museum with lodging at Mahoney State Park in Ashland, Nebraska.

 

Highlights of the Convention:

A 500”, 80 points, 33” wide, with antlers weighing 19.6# Whitetail Buck. Potential #2 or #3 in world records. There will be several deer that score 300” to 500”. 

 

Chris Emery, the Record Book-Measuring Coordinator from SCI National presented The SCI Official Measuring Semina.

Firearm Hunter Education or Bow Education and Boater Education classes were held.

 

The Friday Night Exotic Game Buffet featured Chef carved Smoked Turkey with Cranberry Plum Sauce, Chef carved Bison Steamship roasted in a Dijon Garlic Sauce, Venison Meatloaf with a Black Peppercorn Sauce served with Creamy Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Louisana Style Gumbo and Venison Chili with Jalapeno Cornbread, Juniper Berry Marinated Venison Sirlions, Sante Fe Sausage Stuffer Peppers, Danish Meatbells served with a Dill Sauce, Pulled Pheasant Quesadillas served with Homemade Salsa and Chipotle Ranch, Seasoned Groud Elk Stroganoff served wover Wide Egg Yolk Noodles, Crawfish Cakes served with Cajun Butter and Dirty Rice, Halibut Ceviche served with Blue Corn Tortilla Chips, Smoked Boar served with Petit Rolls and a Spicy Raspberry Mayo, Butternut Squash drizzled with Nutmeg and Maple, Fresh Tender Greens, Homemade Rye Croutons with Romano Cheese and Balsamic Vinaigrette and Assorted Pies.

 

Life member breakfast featured Rachel Ahtila. At 24, Rachel has become a sought after professional hunting guide, camera woman, photographer, presenter, and an ethically balanced young woman in a tough industry. Her role in a historic profession has fueled an interest on an international level. Her passion is wildlife conservation coupled with the tenacity and tireless motivation to become an accomplished guide. Rachel’s goal is to share her passion about guide outfitting and divulge how it could be a potential career for other young women and men through sharing her experiences in the field. Rachel is now a sought after speaker and guide, and is gaining the respect of her network for her professionalism along with her unique story and passion.

 



Sables Education Champagne Luncheon was held at Mahoney Lodge with Rachel Ahtila, Lynn Scott at the keyboard, wonderful silent and live auction items. Luncheon featured Wood Fired Tenderloins of Beef Medalions atop a wedge of crisp lettuce, crumbled aged blue cheese, homemade ranch, applewood smoked bacon bits, chopped Nebraska hot house tomatoes and red onion, fresh baked cheddar Asiago biscuits with butter, individual pear upside down cakes and carrot cakes and coffee, tea and champagne.
